Minister of Education: BSU conflict caused by arbitrariness

Міністр адукацыі назваў самаўпраўствам канфлікт вакол платных іспытаў у БДУ

Students’ self-administration does exist in Belarusian universities, Minister of Education Mihail Zhuraukou said on Belarus-1 on the evening of January 24.

The Minister commented on the students’ protests against having to pay for retaking examinations and tests in the Belarusian State University. Students organized a protest action near the university at the beginning of December. Some of the young people were fined. Hleb Vaikul believes that he has been expelled from BSU after the winter session because of the protests.

Students demand more participation in the university self-administration referring g to the Bologna Process rules.

Zhuraukou on TV: “The events at the university are an example of arbitrariness rather than self-administration. I can confirm that self-administration does exist at our universities.”

The Republican Student Civil Council is effective and is really needed, Zhukau said. All rectors say that the council members participate in university life and can affect it, the Minister added.
