Milinkevich criticizes Belarusian authorities in letter sent to European politicians

The leader of the movement “For Freedom” Alyaksandr Milinkevich has sent a letter to a number of European politicians. Some of the addressees are the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, the head of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Poetering and the European Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner. Milinkevich urges them not to relax their vigilance when it comes to the problems of democracy in Belarus. Alongside with “some steps aimed at liberalization of the economy and some superficial changes in the field of democratization the Belarusian authorities continue exercising pressure on democratic activists”, is said in the letter.

Alyaksandr Mіlіnkevіch has reminded European politicians about Vaukavysk entrepreneurs who have been in jail for three months. According to the leader of the movement “For Freedom”, the authorities are still refusing Belarusians their right for the freedom of speech, assembly and association.
