MIA to pay compensation for prisoner’s death

The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs will pay compensation to Ihar Ptsichkin’s family. The young man died in Valadarksi Street detention centre. The family will receive 36 thousand roubles: 30 thousands for moral damage and 6 thousand – for material damage, Belsat TV channel reports.  Minsk City Court made the decision on May 25. The court was considering the MIA’s appeal of Minsk Zavodski District Court’s decision. The latter announced Ptsichkin’s relatives to be victims and order the MIA to pay condensation to them.

 

Ptsichkin died in Valadarski Street detention centre #1 on the night of August 4, 2013. It happened a few days after he had been jailed for drunken driving. The expertise revealed that he had died of pain shock and cardiac failure. However, the court returned the prison medical assistant guilty of negligence which resulted in Ihar Ptsichkin’s death.
