MEP makes scandalous statements about Ukrainian officials

Some officials may leave Ukraine together with oligarchs, Harms believes.

The leader of the Greens said at a press conference in Strasbourg: “The situation is very disturbing. Oligarchs have an opportunity to leave the country. Some of them have EU passports – for example, Austrian passports. They may leave the country... The European Parliament should change the weak position of the European Commission as regards this issue.”

Not all ordinary Ukrainians can get Schengen visas because it is expensive and difficult, the MEP noted. However, people who “plundered the country which resulted in escalation and violence... have Schengen visas and even Austrian passports,” UNIAN reports.

Ordinary people “need visa liberalisation” while visa restrictions should be imposed on oligarchs and officials “with unclean hands”, Rebecca Harms thinks. She named three Ukrainian officials with Austrian passports – Sergei Arbuzov (acting PM), Andrei Kluyev (secretary of the National Security and Defence Council) and Mykola Azarov (ex-PM who left for Austria), pravda.com.ua reports.
