Meeting in Kurapaty okayed; no permission yet for a demonstration

Minsk City Hall has issued permission to stage a meeting on October 28 in Kurapaty, the site of Stalinist executions in the suburbs of the Belarusian capital. Syarhey Papkou, the deputy chairman of the Conservative Christian Party of the Belarusian Popular Front and an organizer of the event, told the European Radio for Belarus that the meeting was scheduled to begin at 1430.

Papkou also noted that the authorities have not yet responded to his application to organize a demonstration from Minsk to Kurapaty.

"We have applied for a traditional route from Talbukhin Square along Independence Avenue, Kalinouskaha Street, Siadykh Street, Hamarnika Street, Mirashnichenka Street and Kurapaty," Papkou said.
