Medvedev seeks extension for Russian presidential term

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev today proposed in his first state-of-the-nation speech to extend the Russian presidential term to six years. He also suggested that Duma, Russia's lower chamber of the parliament, be elected for five years instead of four presently. "This proposal is not a Constitutional reform. Rather, it is a necessary adjustment of the Constitution", Medvedev explained.
