Malady Front sues Justice Ministry over registration denial

The Minsk City Court is hearing a lawsuit filed by a committee that organizes the founding of the Malady Front (Youth Front) public organization against the justice department at the Minsk City Hall, which in May and July 1007 denied official registration to the group. Human rights lawyer Alena Tankachova, attending the hearing, told the European Radio for Belarus that registration was denied on the grounds described by the justice department officials as their suspision that the organization would carry out illegal activities, including street demosntrations and rallies.

The justice department officials seem to base their move on their assumption only, but they also try to support their stance with the statements from the Interior Ministry that organization founders were repeatedly subjected to administrative prosecution.

Alena Tankachova thinks that it is impossible to predict the outcome of the process. The judge is likely to issue a verdict on Monday or Tuesday, she said.
