Makey informs conditions for return of Belarusian diplomats to Sweden

Uladzimir Makey has informed that the issue of the diplomats' return should be considered in complex. He has noted that the system of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs is undergoing the optimization now, informs BelaPAN. The Minister has also turned attention that the official Minsk will consider the level of relations with the whole Europe and any concrete country.

This spring, the Belarusian side took a positive decision with regard to the accreditation of Sweden's Charge'd'Affaires in Minsk.

The Swedish Embassy in Minsk was closed on August 30, 2012. Before this, the Belarusian authorities did not continue the accreditation of Ambassador Stefan Eriksson. The diplomat was accused of destructive activity. This was preceded by the "teddy bears landing" scandal.

The Swedish authorities stated in response that they would not accept the new Belarusian Ambassador and recommended that the two employees of the Belarusian Embassy should leave Stockholm. In the end, the diplomatic mission of Estonia temporarily performs the functions of the Swedish Embassy in Minsk, while the Latvian Embassy replaced the Belarusian mission in Stockholm.
