Lukashenka discussing Electoral Code changes
Lukashenka describes discrepancies caused by the changes suggested by the Central Election Committee.
“Relaxing restrictions, we must make sure that it will not produce a negative effect on the stability in the country and the situation during elections. There should not be any willfulness and absence of control,” Alyaksandr Lukashenka stressed.
Changes to the Election Code should be made for the benefit of the Belarusian people instead of competing with other states, BelTA quotes Lukashenka.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka mentioned the changes that “had not been supported by everyone”. Most discrepancies were caused by “the norms concerning changes in the rules of financing of election campaigns”, he noted. In particular, it was suggested increasing election funds and allowing their creation before candidates are registered.
The President will send the bill to the House of Representatives in August or September taking the the results of the today’s meeting into account, CEC chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna told Euroradio last week.
