Lukashenka: Belarus cannot develop economy without cooperation with EU

Alyaksandr Lukashenka thinks that there are conditions and basis in the relations with the European Union needed for mutually beneficial cooperation, reports “Interfax-West”. "Some people may dislike it, but we really wish to build up good relations with you”, - said the President during a meeting with an EU Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner.

According to him, a lot depends on the today’s meeting. “What do we expect from Europe? We wish you to understand that Belarus is not only the geographic centre of this continent. Decent, modest and industrious people live here. A sovereign state exists here”, - said the President.

Lukashenka stressed that the European Union was the best technological centre of the planet. “Our economy is also high-tech and we cannot develop our economy without cooperating with you”, - noted the leader of the state.

Furthermore, according to Lukashenka, the most important factor for Belarus is “financial resources, crediting and financing”.
