Lithuania has urged the United States to hold an ad hoc hearing in the Congress on the Belarusian nuclear power plant, TUT.BY reports quoting Lithuanian Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas. Lithuania remains worried about the safety of the nuclear power plant that is being built in Atsraviec District. Vaičiūnas hopes Belarusian civil society representatives could take part in the hearing. Congressmen promised a more active participation of the United States in ‘the strengthening of international organizations’ influence in the nuclear safety control and observation of nature conservation demands.”

President Dalia Grybauskaitė told US Vice President Mike Pence recently that Russia may use the Belarusian NPP ‘as a non-conventional weapon.' Russians are building ‘an unsafe NPP’ in Belarus, she said in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump earlier.

The first power unit of the Belarusian NPP will be commissioned in 2019; the second one – in 2020.
