Lecture on Belarus statehood in Hrodna

Andrei Vashkevich, a historian and an activist with the movement to protect Hrodna from vandals, will on June 3 read a public lecture titled "Flag, Freedom Day, Pahonia, Kalinouski, Kupala: The Symbols of Belarusian National Movement in the Western Belarus in early 20th Century". Vashkevich told the European Radio for Belarus that he would tell the audience about the Belarusian national movement at the time when western Belarus was part of Poland. The historian will also narrate about the evolution of the national symbols, leaders and songs that united people: Pahonia, Lyublyu Nash Krai, etc.

The lecture will take place in the framework of the campaign titled "2008: The Year of Belarusian Statehood", organized by the Hrodna branch of the For Freedom movement. It will be held at the local office of the Belarusian Language Society in Hrodna at 1830 on June 3.
