Leanid Kulakou to stand trial for solidarity with REP

Representatives of Minsk Pershamaiski District Court  phoned Leanid Kulakou on August 30 and informed him about the hearing appointed for September 4, Radio Liberty reports.

 

The activist is accused of an unauthorized picket. He brought a poster in support of the independent trade union REP to the metro station Park Chalyuskintsau on August 14. The inscription on the poster was: “Hands off the independent trade union REP”.

Leaders of the trade union REP Henadz Fyadynich and Ihar Komlik have been charged with major tax evasion. The Financial Investigation Department searched the office of REP and the main office of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union and confiscated computers and financial documents on August 2.

Komlik is in jail now. Fyadynich has been released on recognizance. They are facing from 3 to 7 years of imprisonment.
