Leader of underground Belarusian church remembered in Belarus, Ukraine

Orthodox Christian Belarusians in Pinsk, Lviv, Chernigov and Samy today are celebrating the 105th birthday anniversary of Bishop Herman, the leader of the underground Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in the post-war Belarus. Masses will be served to mark this event.
Nothing was known about the operation of the underground Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in 1944-50s. Most of the church's priests were repressed by the Soviet authorities. Several of them were executed. After his release, Bishop Herman lived in exile in the Ukrainian city of Chernigov under the supervision of the Soviet security agencies. He was buried in Chernigov.
