Latvia: Contraband cigarettes from Belarus problem for whole Europe

Latvia will enhance security at the Latvian and Polish borders to prevent the smuggling of Belarusian cigarettes. The Latvian State Income Service has supported the idea and claimed that illegal cigarettes from Belarus had become a problem for the whole European Union.

The Latvian service refers to a survey conducted by Nilsen Company in Latvia. According to the survey, 69% illegal cigarettes in Latvia are forming Belarus, rus.delfi.lv reports.

By the way, Latvia enhanced control at the Belarusian border a few years ago. Now it is one of the five states where the consumption of illegal cigarettes has been steadily decreasing by 1.8% in the past 18 months.
