Former hockey player of the national team of Belarus Konstantin Koltsov committed suicide, a spokesman for the Miami police said in a comment for Tribuna.com.

"According to investigators, on Monday, March 18, at approximately 12:39 p.m., police and Bal Harbour Fire Rescue were dispatched to the St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort Hotel, 9703 Collins Avenue, regarding a male who had jumped from a balcony," the police comment reads.

Koltsov's case is now reportedly being handled by the Miami-Dade County Homicide Unit.

News of the 42-year-old hockey player's death broke in the United States this evening. Koltsov was known to be dating tennis player Aryna Sabalenka. It is assumed that he went to his girlfriend after the end of the hockey season.

After Koltsov's death, Sabalenka withdrew from the tournament in Miami.

There were rumors that Koltsov could become the head coach of Dynamo Minsk and the Belarusian national hockey team.
