KGB members surprised at Pachobut’s fine

Minsk October District Court has fined a Hrodna journalist of the Polish “Gazeta Wyborcza” Andrei Pachobut for participation in the action on December 19. He will have to pay 1 million 750 thousand rubles (50 base amounts).
Pachobut has informed Euroradio that the sentence was unexpected for him and for the KGB members who had delivered him to Minsk. “The detention and the fact that I was delivered to Minsk at night testified that it would be an administrative arrest”, - says Pachobut. According to the journalist, one of the KGB members even said: “I don’t understand why he was brought from Hrodna at night.”

The Hrodna inhabitant kept telling the court that he had been present in the square as a journalist. He mentioned the article published by “Gazeta Wyborcza” on January 20 as a proof – he was one of its authors. However, the court did not take any arguments about his work into account.
