Kalinowski Program halts applications today

Representatives of the Kalinowski Program on August 1 are holding the last interviews in Belarus with the candidates willing to study at Polish universities.
Ela Garetskaya, the program coordinator with the Solidarity Committee in support of the repressed pro-democracy activists, told Belapan that the program's Polish office was expected to make final decisions on the candidates after August 6.

A total of 70 people from among those who were prosecuted by the Belarus government for political motives are planned to be enrolled with Polish universities.

Under the program guidlines, the children of the repressed are also eligible for enrollment. Poland will offer a choice of humanitarian and technical schools, including universities in Krakow, Bialystok, Lodz, Poznan, Warsaw Politech, Warsaw Arts School and Warsaw Trade College.

The semester will start in September, after the approved students will undergo the Polish language courses.
