Iranian president to visit Belarus

The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is set to pay an official visit to Belarus in the nearest months, the Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said today after talks in Teheran with his Belarusian counterpart Siarhej Martynau. The Belarus President Aliaksandr Lukashenka visited Iran with an official visit last November. Earlier this week, the defense ministers of the two countries also met in Teheran.

Belarus and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the defense field. Defense ministers from the two countries noted in the memorandum the intention of the Iranian and the Belarusian leadership to develop comprehensive relations between the two countries, focusing on the expansion and consolidation of the military and technical cooperation, according to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
