How are “Narodnaya Volya” and “Nasha Niva” sold in Brest?

A Brest ERB reporter has found out: 90% of issues of “NV” and 70%  - of “NN” are usually sold there. Both newspapers are available in Brest Region Sayuzdruk kiosks. One of the most frequented kiosks is in Pushkin Street.

Sales-assistant: They do buy them. We get 1 or 2 from “Nasha Niva”. If we get 40 issues of “Narodnaya Volya” on Tuesday, there are about 20 left on Friday. They have become available recently and not everyone knows about it. 
 
The “Planet” shop is also very popular.

Sales-assistant: We get 40 issues of “Narodnaya Vola” on Tuesdays and Fridays. 30 of them are usually sold. “Nasha Niva” is normally sold out.

The mentioned newspapers are also sent to other kiosks. I asked whether people bought them.

Sales-assistant: They do. We get 15 issues of “Narodnaya Volya” and there are two left at the moment.

ERB: What about “Nasha Niva”?

Sales-assistant: We receive fewer issues and “Narodnaya Volya” is more popular.

The ERB reporter also asked what the least popular newspaper was. The answer was unanimous: “Brest Messenger”, the mass medium of the city executive committee. “People’s Tribune”, a newspaper printed in Belarusian, was also mentioned once. It was founded by the Region Executive Committee.

They also said that the price was important. For example, an official regional newspaper “Zarya” costs 400 roubles. Non-governmental editions are not sponsored by the state and cost more: “Narodnaya Volya” costs 900 roubles and “Nasha Niva”  - 2 thousands.

In the end,  I visited the marketing department of “Ablsayuzdruk”.

ERB: What newspapers are the least popular?

Employee: “Brest Messenger”. However, it is normal when 25% of the print run is not sold.

ERB: Will the newspapers that have come back be able to get back their niche?

Employee: Sure. They need some time. However, people are refusing from newspapers due to the economic crisis. Even regular readers have stopped buying some of their favourite newspapers.
 
“Ablsayuzdruk” gave ERB the January chart of sales and discarding of “Narodnaya Volya” and “Nasha Niva”. Only a few out of 770 issues of “Naridnya Volya were not sold. On average, 90% of the print run is sold. “Nasha Niva” is also successful: 70% of the 500 issues delivered to the region were sold. It is worth mentioning that local democratic activists did not organize any actions to draw the attention of citizens to the fact that “Narodnaya Volya” and “Nasha Niva” were back.
