Haydukevich: I could win in any district

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has decided against fielding candidates in this fall's parliamentary election.

LDP Chairman Syarhey Haydukevich told ERB that the party will focus on preparations for the 2011 presidential election.

"I ran for president twice, was a deputy, currently the leader of the party. I am a quite prominent figure. I appear in the media, on TV, I am a very prominent person. I realize that I would have won in any district in Belarus. But there is the party and the opinion of a large number of people. They believe that Haydukevich should engage in more serious matters. All members of the party think so. I abide by the party's decision."

At their recent convention, most LDP members voted to approve Haydukevich's presidential bid.
