Gas supplies from Lithuania to Ukraine via Belarus depend on Gazprom

The decision about the transit of gas from the Baltic states to Ukraine via the Belarusian gas transportation system totally depends on Gazprom, spokesman of Gazprom Transgaz Belarus Ihar Horski told Russian media.

According to Friday reports, Ukraine asked Belarus to help with transit of liquefied natural gas from Klaipeda through the Belarusian gas transportation system. It was reported that this issue was mentioned in the protocol which was signed on Friday after a meeting of the Belarusian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission.

Commenting on this situation, Mr Horski said that Gazprom Transgaz Belarus fully complies with the gas transportation orders received from Gazprom. The Belarusian company is fully owned by the Russian Gazprom.

Lithuania had previously expressed intention to supply to Ukraine 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas annually. Lithuanian Energy Ministry could not agree with the Gazprom Transgaz Belarus over gas transit via our country.
