French man crosses Belarus border to seek political asylum

A 34-year-old French national was detained by Belarus' border guards near the western Belarusian city of Brest when he attempted to cross the border illegally from Poland.
The French man said he was a Communist and therefore prosecuted for his poitical views back home. However, this information was not confirmed.

The man had already sought political refuge in Hungary and the United States but was denied in the both cases. Most likely, the French will be deported to Poland and then to Hungary, according to the Vecherniy Brest newspaper.
