For Freedom movement founds Vasil Bykov prize

The For Freedom movement founded the Vasil Bykov Prize, the movement's leader Alexander Milinkevich said during a function to mark the 83d birthday anniversary of Belarus's famous writer in his native village of Bychki in the Vicebsk region. Milinkevich revealed that the prize was to be awarded annually "for spiritual strength" to writers, cultural and public figures -- "all those who fostered the strengthening of the Belarusian spirit and helped the Belarusians to get to the square".

The prize will also be awarded to those who currently live outside Belarus but who have contributed to the democratization of the Belarusian society.

It is yet to be finalized what the prize will look like -- a sign or a statue, according to Milinkevich. The award will also be accompanied with a cash prize. The first ceremony will take place at the end of 2007.

The press office of Alexander Milnkevich also said that on June 22 at 1800 at the Eastern Cemetry in Minsk, his movement will stage a public action devoted to the 4th death anniversary of the people's writer of Belarus, accordging to Belapan.
