Former President of the United Nations General Assembly John Ashe has been arrested on charges of getting more than a million dollars from a Chinese tycoon and other businessmen. Ashe promised to help them with getting advantageous investments and state contracts in exchange to it, BBC reports.

Ashe used his positions in the UN to adopt a document in support of a project in Macao, investigators believe. The project was suggested by real estate tycoon Ng Lap Seng.

Six people have been arrested on charges of corruption. They are suspected of participating in the crime scheme for three years.

Ashe used the money to pay for his family’s trip to New Orleans and build a basketball field near his house in New York.
