Former Klimavichy judge asks for political asylum in Poland

A former Klimavichy judge Ihar Tsishkin has asked for political asylum in Poland. He explained it by pressure exercised on him by the Belarusian authorities. He says that he tried to oppose to local corrupt businessmen who were engaged in spirits smuggling to Russia.
Tsishkin claims that membesr of the local special police services were involved in it too and that they threatened him many times, reports “Radio Liberty” referring to BELSAT.

Ihar Tsishkin was the head of Klimavichy District Court from 2000 till 2007. However, he was dismissed form the position by the leader of the state for “violations of the law”. Ihar Tsishkin and his family had managed to leave Belarus for Ukraine before the order was signed. 

According to Mahileu human rights activists, he was involved in a trial of democratic activists.
