Vera Palyakova-Makei, the wife of Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei, has become the head of the Minsk Theater of Young Spectators. Recently, she was introduced to the staff, the actors of the theater told journalists.

She replaced Uladzimir Savitski, who was dismissed in January 2022.

Palyakova-Makei plans to stop the Belarusian-only performance approach. She mentioned this in an interview on the First Channel of Belarusian Radio in late March 2022.

"There are two official languages in our country -- Russian and Belarusian. If we stick to the Belarusian language only, we will lose some of the audience, for example, visitors to the city. I believe that the performances should be in two languages," "Komsomolskaya Pravda" quoted Palyakova-Makei as saying.

If this initiative succeeds, Belarus will have only five Belarusian-language theaters out of 29 professional theaters, as estimated by the Belarusian Council of Culture.
