FM Makei: 4 Belarusians convicted for mercenarism in 2017

Five crimincal cases were opened in 2017 against Belarusians who participated in military conflicts in foreign countries. Four people were convicted, Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei said on 9 October at the International Conference on Fighting Terrorsm taking place in Minsk.

The charges included participation in a military conflict in a foreign country, recruitment or preparaton of other people for participating in a military conflict abroad. The minister also said that 12 people were officially reprimanded.

According to Makei, participation of Belarusians in combat abroad is a threat to Belarus' national security.
