Flowers are laid to Mihaels’s death place

Flowers were laid to the place where a talented actor, producer and Jewish civil activist Solomon Mihaels died in Minsk on Sunday. He was murdered in the country house of the Minister of State Security of BSSR Tsanava on January 13, 1948. His body was thrown away at the crossroads of Ulyanauskaya and Belarusskaya Streets in Minsk. The order to kill Mihaels was personally pronounced by Stalin who had planned a start of a large-scale anti-Semitic campaign.

Representatives of the Union of Belarusian Jewish associations and communities and of the memorial department of the Belarusian voluntary association for protection of historical and cultural monuments took part in the ceremony.

BelaPAN informs that a complaint about failure to obey the decree of the Council of Ministers of 1998 about commemorating the national artist of the USSR is being prepared.

Mihaels was also recalled in Moscow today. An international festival of arts dedicated to him has started there today.
