Fire in Moscow metro, thousands evacuated (photo, video)
A drive cable has caught fire between the stations Lenin Library and Okhotnyi Ryad this morning. 52 people have been injured.
It took 13 minutes to extinguish the fire.
Three stations were closed because of the fire – Okhotnyi Ryad, Lubyanka and Komsomoslkaya. 4.5 thousand people were evacuated from the metro. 52 people including a child were injured and 7 of them are in hospital now.
There was a crush at some stations, RIA Novosti reports. People were asked to use land transport.
The traffic will be resumed by 1.30 p.m. Specialists are trying to find the reason for the fire.
The traffic in Moscow metro was resumed at 11.11 EEST.
