Expert: Russian election is an example of more subtle technologies

How will the results of the parliamentary elections in Russia influence on the situation in Belarus? In the view of political analyst Yury Chavusau, the political situation in Belarus is the least dependant on the results of elections in the neighboring country:

«The question of the example is a more interesting aspect. These elections have proved that it is possible to achieve the same aim to control the political situation but using more subtle technologies which resemble on the surface a normal electoral process»

In Belarus, it is also very possible that a party of power will emerge. Syarhey Haydukevich, the leade of the Belarusian Liberal Democratic Party, today said that "the establishment of a powerful elite political party in Belarus is inevitable". The Russian elections can only push Belarus into this direction.

"Belaya Rus" is my serious contender," says Haydukevich. However, he doesn't believe that Alexander Lukasehnka will rush to head this party (now a public association):

«In this case, Lukashenka is a figure whether you like it or not. A political figure that has made all this way will select what do for himself according to the situation".

Yury Chavusau thinks that Belaya Rus is the project of just several groupings, not of the power elite as a whole. In his view, they "are trying to make the image of the Belarusian authorities more democratic":

«Those groups within the elite are pushing through their project, including Belaya Rus. But even judging by the names on the membership list of this organization, it is clear that this project has not won yet, and has not become an instrument of the power.

Rather, it is a proposal: let's possibly build a controlled democracy like in Russia».
