Ex-trade minister released from jail
The former trade minister, detained on suspicion of power abuse in December 2015, walks out free on recognizance.
Ex-Minister of Trade Valyanstain Chakanau has been released from jail, tut.by reports quoting the Investigation Committee's spokesperson Yuliya Hancharova. The investigation is ‘in the final stages,’ she said. Chakanau walked out free on recognizance.
The ex-Minister was detained on suspicion of power or office abuse in December 2015 (Article 426(3) of the Penal Code). He is facing 3-10 years of imprisonment.
Chakanau is 59 years old. Born in Babruisk, he was appointed Minister of Trade in January 2009.
