Euronest's founding congress might not take place in 2010

There is no absolute confidence that the founding congress of Easter Partnership's Parliamentary Assembly (EURONEST) would take place by the end of 2010, European Parliament's delegation to Euronest chairman Kristian Wigenin said at a special news confernce today. But he added that he really hoped that the congress would be held this year. "I hope that I will very soon be able to annouce a new date that will not be postponed", he told reporters.

Taking into account the situation with Belarus, a delegation of the European Parliament that visited our country on February 26-27 proposed to set up an ad hoc working group on Belarus with participation of MEPs and members of parliaments from the Eastern Partnership member states. It is planned to monitor the situation in Belarys and offer proposals to the delegation from Belarus.

In an earlier development, the speakers of parliaments of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine wrote a letter insisting that Belarus participates in Euronest as equal. At the same time, the European Parliament does not recognize the previous parliamentary elections as free and fair and has no official contacts with Belarus lawmakers.
