Democrats nominate 2000 people for election commissions

The United Pro-Democracy Forces (UDF) has put forward nearly 2000 people as members of constituency election commissions, Siarhei Kaliakin, the leader of the Belarusian Party of Communists told the European Radio for Belarus. More detailed figure could come out after the meeting of the UDF presidium later today, he said.  The nomination of members for election commission (6500 across Belarus) will continue through August 10.

Kaliakin says it will be no problem that not all the commissions will be covered by pro-democracy activists.

"We nominate people only to the commissions where our candidates will be running and where we will be able to run a good campaign", he said.

Only 42 opposition supporters or just 3 percent of the total number of commission members have entered 110 county election commissions.
