Decision about BAJ’s complaint about Ministry of Justice to be taken on Monday

The hearing of the case of the Belarusian Association of Journalists has ended in the Supreme Court. The judge, Anatol Tserah, will announce the court’s decision on Monday at 2.30 p.m.
Prosecutor Skarabahataya made her speech in court on March 19. She claimed that she considered the warning to be absolutely grounded in every clause. The deputy chairperson of BAJ Andrei Bastunets has informed ERB that the prosecutor’s speech was very brief.

Bastunets: She said it was true that the BAJ had violated the law by giving its members certificates with the inscription “press”, that activities of the Centre for legal protection of mass media did not correspond to the legislation and to the statute of the BAJ. At the same time, it was not explained which legislation norms had been violated. The speech was very brief.

Let us remind you that the BAJ is trying to appeal the warning pronounced to the organization by the Ministry of Justice. The journalistic organization was accused of several things at a time – the warning concerned their membership certificates, the status of the Centre for mass media rights protection of the BAJ and some information presented in the organization’s website.
