Commission probes Polish helicopter crash

A bilateral commission has been formed to investigate a Polish helicopter’s crash on the Belarusian side of the shared border.


The Polish Border Guard (Straz Graniczna)’s helicopter crashed while making a routine border patrol on the evening of October 31, killing all three officers aboard. The wreckage of the helicopter was discovered the following morning some 200 yards from the Polish border near the village of Vysokaye in the Kamyanets district, Brest region.


The commission includes Belarusian and Polish experts. The latter arrived in Belarus on November 1.


The experts traveled to the scene of the crash on Monday. Criminal proceedings are expected to be instituted in connection with the accident.


The bodies of the officers were taken to a Brest hospital on November 1.
Autopsies were to be conducted on Monday.
