Burial of Lech and Maria Kaczyńskis to take place in Krakow

Only Kaczyńskis’ relatives and close friends will take part in the mourning ceremony in the castle in Krakow
The Polish President Lech Kaczyński and his wife Maria who died in a place crash near Smolensk will be buried in the royal castle of Wawel in Krakow today.

A special plane arrived in Krakow from Warsaw on Sunday morning. The coffins of Lech and Maria Kaczyńskis will be brought to St. Mary's Basilica in the historical center of the city. A divine service and the official parting ceremony will start there at 2 p.m.

RIA Novosti informs that only Kaczyńskis’ relatives and close friends will take part in the funeral ceremony in Wawel.


First Channel to show Andrzej Wajda’s film “Katyn” today

A film of Andrzej Wajda “Katyn” will be shown on the First Channel on April 18 and 23. The Belarusian Broadcasting Company has informed BelaPAN that an unscheduled broadcast will take place on Sunday – it will start at 3.30 p.m. “Katyn” is also planned to be shown at midnight on April 23.
Andrzej Wajda’s film describes the events connected with the shooting of Polish officers in Katyn in 1940. The fates of four Polish officers and their relatives who do not know the truth but are guessing it are shown in the film. This is a film about women who are waiting and do not believe in death.

As it was informed earlier, the broadcasting of entertaining programmes will be limited in Belarus on April 18. It will be connected with the funeral of the Polish President Lech Kaczyński and the other people who died in the plane crash near Smolensk. Alyaksandr Lukashenka has obliged state mass media to do it. It is not recommended to broadcast entertainment programmes from 12 till 6 p.m.

The Kaczyńskis will be buried in Krakow at 6 p.m.  The official Belarusian delegation in Poland is led by the head of the Republican Council of the National Assembly Barys Batura.

Merkel, Sarkozy and Obama not to be able to attend funeral of Kaczyńskis

The German chancellor Angela Merkel, the French Presidnet Nicolas Sarkozy and the US president Barrack Obama will not be able to attend the funeral of Lech and Maria Kaczyńskis because of the eruption of a volcano in Iceland which has limited air travel in Europe, informs Reuters.
Gazeta.pl adds that the Austrian President Heinz Fischer and the President of Serbia Boris Tadić will not come for the same reason. At the same time, the Russian President Dmitrii Medvedev will attend the funeral of the Polish President and his wife.

On the whole, 32 foreign delegations will not be able to attend the funeral in Krakow, notes gazeta.ru.
