BPF leader: We do not want refugees from EU in Belarus

Лідар БНФ: Мы супраць таго, каб у Беларусь перапраўлялі бежанцаў з ЕС

The European Union is planning to build ‘several migration centres’ in Belarus. The European Commission is planning to spend 7 million euro on it, German Tageszeitung reports. The Belarusian MFA has confirmed this information to Euroradio.

BPF leader Alyaksei Yanukevich has commented on the plans of Belarus’ cooperation with the EU as regards migrants for Euroradio. The BPF actively protested against the possible transfer of migrants arriving to the EU and Belarus a year ago.

"We will be monitoring the situation. There are a lot of nuances that we do not fully understand. We believe that the construction of migration centres for refugees living in the EU does not correspond to Belarus’ interests and violates human rights. If the people seeking refuge in Belarus are meant than it is a different thing. Then our country would be able to render assistance to a certain number of such people. But It should be done within reasonable limits,” Alyaksei Yanukevich belives.

Western politicians have been trying to negotiate with the Belarusian authorities secretly recently, the politician added. Belarusians are unaware of their plans.

"If the first variant is chosen, the public must be informed about it. Such things should not be discussed secretly... We are criticising the European Union for the fact that the Belarusian society lacks information about the EU’s negotiations with the Belarusian authorities. The Belarusian authorities do not think that the public should be informed about it. Some EU representatives are conducting an insincere policy. They think that they should only inform the public in their countries while it is up to the Belarusian authorities to inform Belarusians. But it will not be done,” Yanukevich said.
