Belarusians spend less on food, more on utilities

The retail goods turnover in January-July in Belarus grew 1% against the same period last year. TUT.by reports quoting the Belarusian Statistics Agency (BelStat), Belarusians spent BYN21.6 billion in shops, market places and shopping malls in the first seven months of 2017.

People of Belarus started to spend less on foodstuffs - BYN1.2 billion or 0.2% less than last year.

With reduced spending on food, alcohol and tobacco, Belarusians paid more for utilities and phone and internet bills.

The average wage in Belarus has been growing for the past four months in a row up to almost BYN 820 (or $410). However, real income of the population continues to drop.
