Belarusians to pay 20 dollars more for public utilities

Public utilities will rise in price in Belarus. Owners of two-room flats will have to pay 20 dollars more. The Belarusian Ministry of Economy claimed that it was considered possible to raise the price of public utilities in 2008. The increase of prices is secured by the concept of the country’s social and economic development for the next year.

By the calculations of the Ministry of Economy, this step will help local budgets and support the country’s producers. At the same time, the level of inflation will significantly increase after the rise in prices.

The Ministry of Economy explained it by the fact that the electricity charges for Belarusians are twice lower than in the neighboring countries. But the correlation of expenses for public utilities and people’s income is the lowest, reports the web site http://bsb.by.
