Belarusians living near Lithuanian border may become Lithuanians

Two Lithuanian deputies Paulus Saudargas and Gintaras Sangaila have suggested expanding the law on dual citizenship.
Furthermore, it is planned to grant Lithuanian citizenship to people of Lithuanian origin living “on traditional ethnic Lithuanian territories in border zones”, writes “Lithuanian Courier”.

The edition notes that the majority of ethnic Lithuanians live in Belarus not far from the Lithuanian border. Let us note that according to the latest census, there are 6387 Lithuanians living in our country.

Interestingly, the Belarusian legislation does not allow for dual citizenship.
