Belarusian-Russian border not to be closed for travel banned

Passports will be checked only if stay in a border hotel or if you are an illegal immigrant. The Belarusian leader has charged the Council of Ministers with elaboration of the project of equipment of check-points at the Belarusian-Russian border after his conversation with the head of the State Control Committee. According to the President, our eastern border should correspond to international standards.

Does it mean that the Russian “hole” for the travel banned will be closed and there will be passport control at the border? There will not be any control like this, assured the press secretary of the border committee Alyaksandr Tsishchanka in his interview with ERB:

“I assure you that this is not an issue of border control and security. It is necessary to create good conditions for the functions that are fulfilled there. It means – customs, transport, sanitary control and insurance”.

The press secretary of the State Control Commetee Kiryl Danilau told ERB that hotels, restaurants and currency exchange offices would be built at the border.

Kiryl Danilau: “We are talking about the drawback of the infrastructure of check-points at the Belarusian-Russian border. That is, we mean fallbacks of the border services. This project is aimed at providing normal services and recreation opportunities. Catering services, currency exchange offices and hotel complexes will be available there”.

It is done for employees of check-points and for people crossing the border.

Belarusian officials say that check-points on the Russian side of the border correspond to the internationals standards. However, the situation in Belarus should be seen to as soon as possible. According to Mr. Tsishchanka, the western Belarusian border does not need reorganization as it has all the needed facilities. The Russian border is more administrative.

Alyaksandr Tsіshchanka: “The western border has all the facilities. The Union State, the European Union and Belarus took part in its creation. We created the border together. Speaking about the Belarusian-Russian border, we can say it is more administrative. Activities at that border usually concern prevention of illegal migration… So they can be performed at once”.

So the day when travelers will be able to stay in border hotels and have a snack in restaurants depends on the Council of Ministers.
