Belarusian MFA: Russian driver likely to be blamed for road accident

The ambassador’s driver is a Belarusian citizen. The car collided with another one on November 19, head of the pres service of the Belarusian MFA Dzmitry Mironchyk reported.

Mironchyk: “The driver of the ambassador’s Mercedes is a Belarusian citizen. According to the police, the driver of the Russian VAZ is probably to blame for the road accident. The investigation is in process now. Belarus is ready to render any needed assistance to the Russian Federation police. The driver and the ambassador were not injured, they did not have to be taken to hospital and the Ambassador went to work right away.”

The Belarusian Ambassador to Russia has met with a road accident in Smolensk Oblast this morning. His Mercedes collided with a VAZ-2104 on the M1 highway. Two women (the Lada passengers aged 75 and 77) died. Their car was torn apart.

The representative of the Belarusian MFA did not comment on reports saying that the Ambassador’s car was moving at the speed of 200 km/h. “Investigators will make all the necessary conclusions in this case,” Dzmitry Mironchuk said.
