Belarusian conductor to lead Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in Denmark

Dzmitry Matsviyenka, a 33-year-old Belarusian, has been appointed chief conductor of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in Denmark. According to the orchestra's website, he will be employed from August 2024 for three full seasons.

The orchestra has 21 symphony concerts scheduled for that period. Matsviyenka will conduct his first concert as chief conductor on September 12, 2024.

The conductor said he was honored to accept the position.

Matsviyenka previously worked as a conductor at the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus, but two years ago he announced his departure from the company. He said that while working abroad, agreed in advance with the theater management, he was removed from the production of the opera "Samson and Dalila".
