Candidate for local councils will have 3 minutes on radio waves to promote their program. During the previous local elections, the time slot was 5 minutes long. 3 minutes is enough to describe yourself and your program, Central Eelection Commission chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna reckons. It will be necessary to abandon the practice of radio speeches in the future, she told Belarus 1 TV.

Candidates can make their speeches free of charge. Additional time can be paid for with the money from their personal funds. Speeches will be broadcast on weekdays starting from 6 p.m. in the period from January 22, 2017 to February 12, 2018. The speeches will not be broadcast live. They will be prerecorded.

Local elections will be held in Belarus on February 18, 2018. The nomination of candidates began on December 10 and will continue until January 8. Candidates can collect signatures or can be nominated by political parties and workers' associations.
