Belarusian authorities intend to sell “Beltelecam”

The Belarusian government has decided to include the national telecoms operator “Beltelecam” in the privatization plan for 2009. The text of the corresponding resolution of the Council of Ministers #1256 of September 29 has been published on the National legal Internet portal. The Belarusian authorities refuted any possibility of privatization of “Beltelecam” until very recently. In particular, the Minister of Communication and Informatization Mikalai Pantsyalei claimed on September 23 that “Beltelecam” needed no privatization processes in the view of attraction of investments.

At the same time, the Minister drew attention to one of the terms Belarus needed to stick to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).  It concerned the liberalization of the telecommunications market.

"Probably, the circumstances will make them start liberalization and I do not exclude that “Beltelecam” may be turned into a stock corporation but the possibility of selling shares to someone else is not being considered”, - reports Kapital.by quoting the Minister.
