Belarus reports 2.5-percent inflation growth in Jan 2008

Consumption prices in Belarus rose by 2.5 percent in January 2008 against the 2.4% growth in December 2007, according to the statement from the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis.
The growth of consumption costs in January 2008 was reportedly caused by the growth of utilities tariffs.

The National Bank of Belarus forecasts inflation in February and March at the level of 0.5-0.6% per month on condition that an administrative growth of utilities costs does not take place again.

Under the social and economic development tergets in 2008, the government of Belarus and the Central Bank aim to contain inflation within 6-8% or 0.5-0.6% per month. In 2007, inflation in Belarus rose to 12.1% against the forecasted target of 6-8%, reports Interfax
