Belarus to reduce military service term to 1 year

The Defense Ministry of Belarus is studying a proposal to reduce the term of mandatory military service down to one year, Defense Minister Leanid Maltsau told reporters in Minsk on Thursday.
Before the term is cut, the army needs to develop a set of measures in order to improve military training at the cost of modern simulators, reports the official news agency Belta.

Currently, those without a higher education serve 1.5 years. Former students spend one year in the army.
