BRICS Summit in Johannesburg / Reuters

Belarus is not on the list of countries invited to join the BRICS club. The organization is expanding by five members. They are Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. They will become members of BRICS from January 1, 2024, the Johannesburg Declaration adopted at the end of the 15th Summit states.

"We have decided to invite Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to become full members of BRICS," South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said in a speech at the summit.  A total of 23 countries applied to join the organization before the summit in South Africa. On the eve of the meeting in Johannesburg, Belarusian Foreign Minister Siarhey Aleinik said that "the countries that have applied for membership in the organization, including Belarus, expect to receive confirmation of their admission as soon as possible".

At present, BRICS includes five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
