Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine to discuss electric power export to Lithuania

Foreign Ministers of Belarus, Lithuania and Ukraine Syarhei Martynau, Vygaudas Ušackas and Vladimir Ogryzko will discuss the possibility of exporting Ukrainian electric power to Lithuania.

The trilateral meeting will take place in Druskininkai and Vilnius on February 14 and 15. The Lithuanian Ambassador to Belarus Edminas Bagdonas informed that “the meeting will be unofficial and no documents are supposed to be signed there” at a press conference in Minsk on February 11.

Experts note that Lithuania is getting energy from Russia and is trying to find additional sources of energy supplies now. The Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko has claimed many times that Kiev can supply the necessary amount of energy to Lithuania. However, the issue depends on the agreement of the Belarusian government to transit it.
